Release v1.0.1

What’s Included in v1.0.1?

This is the first proper public release of KCD Watch, so rather than a traditional list of fixes and changes, here’s a quick overview of what the thing actually does.

  • KCD-inspired rotating sundial – the main dial moves throughout the day to give the watch its distinctly Bohemian method of telling the time.
  • Dynamic sunrise and sunset display – the daylight band adjusts using your Garmin’s sunrise and sunset data, so the watch changes with the actual length of the day rather than simply pretending that winter doesn’t exist.
  • Current heart rate – displayed directly on the watch face, with a suitably cheerful little skull appearing if a heart-rate reading isn’t currently available.
  • Body Battery – Garmin’s Body Battery value is shown with colour changes to make your current state a little easier to judge at a glance.
  • Steps and daily progress – your current step count is displayed, with a visual change when your daily target has been reached.
  • Activity Buff – a blue sapphire can appear when you’ve been particularly active, based on your Active Minutes and your own weekly Garmin activity goal.
  • Activity Debuff – a red ruby can appear later in the day if both your steps and Active Minutes are falling substantially behind where they would normally be expected to be by that point.
  • Stress Buff and Debuff – unusually low stress can earn you a blue sapphire, while exceptionally high stress can produce a red ruby. The thresholds are deliberately extreme, so these shouldn’t be flashing at you every five minutes.
  • Recovery information – Garmin recovery data is worked into the watch face so you can see when your recent efforts may still be catching up with you.
  • Health and activity information without turning the whole thing into a spreadsheet – the aim is to keep the useful Garmin data while still looking like something Henry might plausibly have looted from a suspiciously well-equipped and potentially time-travelling Cuman.

Most of the additional indicators are designed to stay out of the way unless there’s actually something worth drawing your attention to. The goal isn’t to have the watch constantly congratulating or scolding you (not at least this version as it’s meant to be ‘casual’) – just to make the useful bits of Garmin’s health and activity data feel like they belong in the world of KCD.

Downloads

Please consider supporting this project: If you’d like to help with the ongoing costs of running KCDWatch.com and the project – and perhaps help me justify the frankly excessive amount of time I’ve already spent on it – you can tip me a Groschen or two. This is, of course, completely optional. Alternatively, if you’re already in the market for a new Garmin watch, you can have a look at my recommended watches and consider using one of the links provided. Either way, thank you for supporting the project. JCBP!
