Changelog & Bug Reports

Bug Identified

5 September 2026

As the current character set only uses standard A-Z and 0-9 glyphs – for some languages the characters that are not included just show a block in the “date” or “week day” fields.

To be fixed alongside with new font implementation. Just need to figure out which glyphs are needed, so I don’t end up doing accents from every imaginable language to cover all the 36 languages…

Short term fix? Please use the watch face in English if your localisation is buggered up.

v1.1.X – Complete Buff & Debuff Logic Rework, & Minor Improvements

TBC

There are a number of ongoing improvements happening in the current test build.

You can follow the latest shenanigans from here.

New additions:

  • Complete rework of the buff / debuff system visually
  • An alarm icon, that only shows if you have an alarm set up on your watch
  • Hold-to-push areas allowing you to access a range of Garmin data straight from the watch face

Minor improvements:

  • Date formatting improvements

The rotating sundial currently uses the builder’s bitmap rotation system, which generates 60 pre-rendered images for a full 360° rotation. This means the dial can only move in 6° steps. On a 24-hour dial, 6° represents roughly 24 minutes, so the dial may appear stationary for several minutes before jumping forward to the next available position.

A vector-based dial may be able to solve this by allowing much finer rotation on the actual watch.

(Thanks Valeria!)

v1.0.1 – Buff & Debuff Logic Tweaks, & Minor Improvements

31 August 2026

The KCD Watch buff and debuff system has had another round of balancing. The aim is to make the little sapphires and rubies feel like actual status effects rather than things that are on the watch all the time – and effectively act as permanent decorations.

  • Activity Buff: The blue activity sapphire is now based on Garmin Active Minutes. It appears once today’s Active Minutes reach roughly 140% of the average daily share of the user’s weekly Active Minutes goal (as I felt the usual daily average is too low to be used).
  • Activity Debuff: The old three-day step-history calculation has been replaced entirely. The red activity ruby can now only appear after 12:00, and when both steps and Active Minutes are unusually low for that point in the day. Specifically, both must be below roughly one-third of the amount normally expected by that time. This should make the debuff considerably rarer and avoid punishing people simply for having the audacity to sit at a desk for a while. That said, if you just sit around all day: You will most definitely get the debuff and the watch will let you know that it’s time to get moving!
  • Stress Buff: The blue stress sapphire is now reserved for exceptionally low stress, appearing only at a Garmin stress level of 10 or below.
  • Stress Debuff: Likewise, the red stress ruby now requires a stress level of 90 or above. Anything between 11 and 89 is considered normal enough.
  • Recovery Buff: The blue recovery sapphire now requires a Body Battery of at least 80, together with no more than 6 hours of recovery time remaining.
  • Recovery Debuff: The red recovery ruby is now reserved for more extreme cases: a Body Battery of 10 or below, 72 hours or more recovery remaining, or a combination of Body Battery 25 or below with at least 48 hours of recovery remaining.

The general rule is now fairly simple: No buff or debuff should be the normal state. Blue means you’re doing particularly well, red means something has become noteworthy, and most of the time the watch should remain mercifully free of unsolicited medieval judgement and be clear of clutter.

Additional Changes

  • Positioning of the debuff / buff icons adjusted slightly.

The blue activity buff for steps and being able to hit the steps for consecutive days does not seem to work as intended. Something, something, step history, something something funny formula.

As that figure is not reliable, I’ll reimagine the functionality slightly: Rather than using steps, I will try to tie it around activity – so that you get the blue buff next to the steps icon if your daily active minutes…. Or maybe calories burned? Or, maybe a formula based on both?

v1.0.0 – Initial Release

30 August 2026

The first complete version of KCD Watch is pretty much done and fully functional as intended. This release establishes the main watch face design, timekeeping, health and activity information, day/night display and the first version of the buff and debuff system.

Compatibility at Launch

    • Garmin Forerunner 70
    • A number of other watches with 390 x 390 screen (functionality to be confirmed by user reports!)

Time & Date

  • Displays the current time in a 12-hour format.
  • Includes an AM/PM indicator.
  • Displays the current day and abbreviated month.
  • Displays the current weekday.
  • Uses KCD-inspired typography, labels and styling throughout the main dial.

Sundial & Day/Night Display

  • Includes a rotating 24-hour sundial-style display that follows the current time of day.
  • Sunrise and sunset are based on the location-aware data available from the watch, rather than using fixed times.
  • Sunrise and sunset positions are shown around the dial.
  • A daylight arc visually represents the period between sunrise and sunset.
  • Sun and moon markers make the transition between the daytime and nighttime portions of the display easier to identify at a glance.
  • The day/night display automatically changes as sunrise and sunset times move throughout the year and between locations.

Heart Rate

  • Displays the current heart rate in beats per minute.
  • The normal heart-rate display uses the standard watch-face colour scheme.
  • An elevated heart rate is highlighted in red to make it more immediately noticeable.
  • If heart-rate information is unavailable, the normal value is replaced by a skull rather than displaying a misleading number.

Steps & Activity

  • Displays the current day’s step count.
  • Uses the Garmin step goal as the basis for the step-related buff system.
  • A blue sapphire buff appears when the step goal has been achieved on at least two days within the current rolling three-calendar-day period.
  • The three-day period includes today, so the buff can disappear after missed goals and return later the same day once today’s goal has been reached.

Body Battery & Recovery

  • Displays Body Battery information directly on the watch face.
  • Body Battery is accompanied by a visual bar, making the current level easier to judge without relying entirely on the number.
  • Recovery information is also used by the watch face to provide a quick indication of whether the wearer appears well recovered or could probably do with taking things a little easier.
  • A red ruby debuff can appear when recovery is poor and disappears again as recovery improves.

Buffs & Debuffs

  • Introduces KCD-inspired status effects using small gemstone indicators rather than additional text or large icons.
  • Blue sapphire indicators represent positive buffs.
  • Red ruby indicators represent negative debuffs.
  • Buffs and debuffs are tied to relevant activity, recovery and health information already available to the watch.
  • The indicators are deliberately small and unobtrusive, providing additional context without turning the watch face into a dashboard full of warnings.

Status Information

  • Displays the watch’s remaining battery percentage.
  • Provides current heart rate, steps and battery information in a compact status area for quick reference.
  • Health and activity information is presented alongside the medieval visual design rather than replacing it with conventional fitness-watch graphics.

General

  • Designed as a Kingdom Come: Deliverance-inspired Garmin watch face while remaining useful as an everyday watch.
  • The main information has been arranged so that time, date, activity, recovery and daylight information can all be checked without navigating away from the watch face.
  • The design has been refined for readability on the relatively small watch display, including simplified icons and status indicators intended to remain recognisable at their actual on-watch size.

Just opened the discussion on this page as well. If you have noticed something weird with the watch face, please mention it here. 🙂

The watchface on my Venu shows the skull symbol over the my heart rate number (showing both at the same time but with skull overlayed), see image on url below.

Ah… Weird! Sorry just to confirm, that’s the first Venu? They must have changed the token or it just returns a different value. Thanks for the feedback – JCBP!

EDIT: After looking at the picture that’s not the only thing. The sun and moon icons and the daylight arc isn’t working either. As the steps say 0, could you confirm that at least works? I need to remove the three features altogether at least for this one.

UPDATE: It does look like the first Venu is a bit too old for this, as it’s from 2019 🙁 I will remove it from the supported list accordingly. Will have to test a bit later if there’s a need for a simplified one not just for lower resolutions, but also for the older Garmins that do not either have all the data available, or they use different tokens.
